Matt Richards is an experienced Chartered Accountant and has been Managing Director of Accounting North since 2004. Originally from Brisbane, Matt studied Commerce and Law at University of Queensland before moving to the Sunshine Coast in 1995.

Over a number of years, Accounting North has grown at a consistent annual rate of up to 40% with Matt at the helm. Matt is the driver behind the innovative practices at Accounting North, including working in a paperless office and offering a cutting-edge range of business development and profit optimisation services to our clients.

Career highlights include growing Accounting North from a firm of 7 staff to an elite team of 25 professionals in just 4 years, having the firm recognised in BRW’s Fast 100 companies in 2008, being a Focus Session Leader for the Chartered Accountant Program and a regular presenter at industry functions.

  

A Day In The Life

4.45am Get out of bed, check my blood sugars, eat and I’m on my bike just after 5am for a 2 hour ride. 
7.00am Home from ride in time to eat breakfast with the kids.
8.30am Into the office, check my diary and make sure I have prepared for any meetings before going through emails and fitting in a couple of quick catch ups with a few of the team.
10.30am Strategic Partner Meeting with Wade from Bankwest to discuss the benefits of our bank finance reports and how we can assist their clients in reaching their business goals.
11.30am Phone meeting with a client who is considering selling part of their business to a key staff member. We assist him in understanding the true value of the business and give a clear action plan of how to improve their business value.
12.30pm Head down to the pool for a swim session with my lunch time swimming group.
4.30pm Run through emails, reply and delegate.  Phone call with prospective new client that is uninspired by their current accountant. They feel like they have been with them for 10 years and only ever hear from them at tax time. Discuss with them the business advisory services we offer that can help them achieve their business goals faster. They sound excited!
6:00pm Attend Professional Development session at Maroochy Events Centre.
7:30pm Home for the day. I reheat dinner and help my son Noah with his reading homework.
